This is an initiative of education and environmental awareness on sustainable mobility aimed at Primary Education Centers promoted by the City of Malaga and funded by European funds derived from the CIVITAS call. This educational project seeks to give a different meaning to the time invested by schoolchildren in going to and from school by working on such fundamental pillars as sustainable mobility and children's autonomy. Currently, the initiative is implemented in 10 educational centers, where these school paths are developed in one of its modalities: Pedibus, Bicibus or Bicitren, favoring intermodality.
This project favors social relations in the educational community since autonomy challenges are achieved thanks to the collaborative work with horizontal participation from students of different levels, parents, teachers and non-teaching staff that are involved in facilitating that these paths are a reality. It also highlights the promotion of equality, social inclusion and a healthy life style by opening the possibility of going to school without the need of a motorized vehicle, by autonomous means and doing sports.
For the success of this project, we rely on the participation of the neighborhoods where the educational centers are located. Participants Exchange ideas with other public and private entities located on the routes to schools to make them safer and have the support of the entire neighborhood. In addition, there are also related associations, such as Round Wheels, to create collaboration and synergies in promoting more sustainable mobility in the city.
The "Paseando al cole" initiative is a good practice applicable to any educational center, highlighting the incorporation of new technologies for the dynamization of awareness talks, the elaboration of surveys that promote participation and the continuous improvement of the project as well as the use of the TRAZEO application, a reference for assessing activities carried out and their development autonomously.
